Event Committee

ALLAN J. KLASSEN

Event Chair

Allan J. Klassen, Senior Vice President, Calgary Housing and former President and Managing Partner of ALBI Homes Ltd., has been engaged in the housing industry for the past 25 years. Starting in 1991 as a sales representative for ALBI, has been blessed to lead amazing teams over the years in striving for excellence in the competitive but rewarding housing and development industry.

Allan has spent many years giving back to the industry that he loves. In 2004, he became the President of the Calgary Region Home Builders’ Association and in 2005 the President of Calgary Home Builders Association–Alberta. He has been recognized over the years with numerous association awards including the “George Frieser Award”- the highest level of recognition given for a volunteer at the provincial level for his leadership in gaining local and provincial support of the One Voice – One Industry initiative. In 2010 Allan was inducted into the Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Hall of Fame which recognizes individuals who have contributed and made a difference in the home building industry in Alberta over the years. As a result of the involvement in industry Allan was also recognized in 2004 by Alberta Venture magazine as one of the top 50 most influential people in Alberta

Just recently in July 2016 with the merger of CHBA/UDI the new association amalgamated and formed BILD- Calgary Region at which time Allan was asked to re-join the board and asked to chair the new organization in its initial year of operation.

In 2010 Allan had the opportunity to get involved as a board member with the Alzheimer’s Pro-Am Hockey tournament, focused on raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s and dementia related diseases . At the time, he knew very little about the disease or that it would impact his family’s life so dramatically.  His father John, was diagnosed with dementia, shortly after Allan joined the Pro-Am Committee, and eventually succumbing to this dreaded disease in 2012. This life changing experience for his whole family strengthened his resolve to support the Alzheimer’s community and has been a catalyst in the launch of the Gordie Howe Center for Alzheimer’s Research and Education Society. Today Allan sits as the chair of the not for profit society as well as the chair of the main fund raising initiative the Gordie Howe CARES Pro Am hockey tournament . Since 2010 the Pro-am has raised over $5m in southern Alberta in an effort to make a difference in educations, research and day support for those suffering with the disease.

A believer in lifelong learning and education, at the ripe old age of 50, Allan enrolled in Harvard’s on campus OPM {Owner/President Management} Program, graduating after 3 years in 2013.

In his “spare time” Allan sits on the board of directors for the Bearspaw Country club and continues to participate in the community by coaching midget hockey in the Bow River community.

More than anything Allan cherishes his time with Christine, his wife of 17 years and their three children Zachary, Ty and Bella.
