OUR GOAL

The Gordie Howe Center for Dementia Care, will be located in the state-of the art seniors community; The Manor Village at Fish Creek. This Center will provide much needed educational and research opportunities, as well as a dementia day support program offered to the public.

More specifically, from a research lens, Gordie Howe C.A.R.E.S. is very interested in understanding how diet, sleep and exercise play a role in someone’s ability to “fight”, delay, or even arrest the onset of dementia symptoms or the pathological markers associated with the disease. It is hoped that much of the research that will be conducted in the Center, and with key stakeholders, will have meaningful bearing to those who are impacted with dementia.

The Center will include an educational Theatre, which will provide a wide range of educational offerings to the public on the various research initiatives happening locally, nationally and abroad. Furthermore, we are hoping to ensure the local and surrounding community gleans a better understanding of dementia.

The Gordie Howe Center for Dementia Care will host an innovative Adult Day Support Program to benefit the local community and the significant needs of caregivers. This core element will allow those people in supportive roles to have some respite and participate in their regular daily activities, without worrying about their loved one – who will be engaged in supportive activities of their own at the Center. The Gordie Howe Center for Dementia Care and its three innovative streams of research, education and our Adult Day Support Program will undoubtedly have a positive impact to Calgarians.
