In May of 2025, I will be participating in the Gordie Howe CARES Pro-Am in support of the Gordie Howe Centre for Alzheimer’s Research and Education Society. This year I'm skating in support of my friend Ryan, who's dad was diagnosed 9 yrs ago. Please read his story below:

"As most of you know, my Dad, Robin was diagnosed about 8 years ago with an aggressive form of Alzheimer's. Today he is unable to walk or feed himself. I try to visit him every Sunday with my family and enjoy the little moments. Watching his grandchildren run around and play makes him smile, even if he isn’t sure who they are. We all find joy in listening to some of his favourite songs.

He seems to be a fan of the new Beatles song!

My mum, Joan, Robin's wife of 59 years continues her journey as a caregiver, navigating the healthcare system and advocating in Robin’s best interest. She has continued visiting Robin 4-5 days a week to shave, shower, feed and visit with him. As always this comes at a cost of her own personal well being. It is remarkable what she has taken on over the years and represents one of thousands of caregivers in this city.

The Gordie Howe foundation raises money that not only brings awareness to the diease but most importantly provides support for the loved ones and caregivers of people with Alzheimers. These caregivers become the forgotten in all the stress and chaos. See below for more details on the programs the tournament has supported.
