Jamie's connection with Gordie Howe Cares
It starts with a connection to a dear friend, Andrew Walker, who has lived in Calgary for a number of years and has been involved in the fundraising and tournament for a while as well.
Andrew and I stay in touch frequently, and each year I get to hear about how much fun he had playing, and enjoying the camaraderie. I'll admit that I was envious.
In January of 2024 on another one of our calls, I mentioned to Andrew that if the team ever needed a player, I would see what I could do to travel that way and participate. I was thinking it would be a number of years of being on a "wait list" before I'd get the opportunity.
About a week later, I get a call from Andrew asking if I'd want to play this year.
Add in the fact that some family members have dealt with dementia and mental health issues in the past, I'm proud to be taking part in an event that raises so much money for a worthy cause.
In May of 2024, I will participate in the Gordie Howe CARES Pro-Am and I'm incredibly excited for the chance to play. The Pro-Am is a weekend hockey event where we welcome NHL Alumni from across North America to help us raise money for the Gordie Howe CARES Centre for Alzheimer’s Research and Education Society.
Your generosity supports Alzheimer’s caregivers to live healthier and fuller lives, preparing our community for the future when millions more step into this role.
Please help support me in this important cause by contributing to my fundraiser!
Whatever you can give will help - it all adds up! I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.
Thank you!
Jamie
