Hey there,
My name is Joel Brown, and I am proud to say I will be competing in my 4th Gordie Howe CARES Pro-Am this May. The Pro-Am is a weekend hockey event where we welcome NHL Alumni from across North America to help us raise money for the Gordie Howe CARES Centre for Alzheimer’s Research and Education Society. Although the weekend offers great experiences for myself, there is a deeper reason behind it that truly hits close to home.
For those who do not know, my grandmother had been battling Alzheimer's before losing her life in 2023. Although her memory had slowly started to go, over the final years it truly started to slip. What started as simple mental lapses of thinking she was back in Scotland, grew to thinking her great grandkids were my mothers, too losing memory of everyone around her. Although she is gone, she will never be forgotten.

As a player, we have all paid our own way into the event, and are now just looking to fundraise for the cause, with all donations going directly to the foundation. Your generosity supports Alzheimer’s caregivers to live healthier and fuller lives, preparing our community for the future when millions more step into this role.
